The Hercules moth is a true titan of the moth world, earning its title by being one of the largest moths on the planet! Native to the rainforests of northern Queensland, Australia, this giant can have wingspans stretching up to 25–30 cm, with elongated tail-like extensions that make it look like a mythical creature soaring through the night sky. Its wings are a warm, golden brown adorned with striking patterns of red and white, making it look almost regal in flight. The Hercules moth’s larvae feast on eucalyptus leaves, but as an adult, it doesn't eat at all—its sole focus is on mating and continuing the species. Despite its size and impressive appearance, this moth is surprisingly gentle, flitting about quietly under the cover of darkness.
